Formed with an objective to undertake R&D work in the areas of Microwave Engineering and Electromagnetic Engineering Technology, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) was established as an autonomous R&D laboratory, under the then Department of Electronics, Government of India in 1984. The society has three centres, each located in the three major metro cities i.e., Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata.

SAMEER operates with a vision “to achieve excellence in application oriented research in the areas of Microwave /RF Electronics and Electromagnetics”.

The SAMEER Logo is an acronym that is pronounced in Hindi. The word SAMEER means wind. The letter S can be seen going upwards through the wordmark, which is a depiction of growth and progress. The tagline, Passion for performance, is given at the bottom.
