Initiated for the benefit of under-privileged section, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on 1st May 2016. Safeguarding the health of women and children by providing them with clean cooking fuel, the scheme aims to distribute 50 million LPG connections to women of BPL families, thereby eliminating the need for them to wander in unsafe areas in search of firewood. As of 23rd October 2017, 30 million connections were distributed, 44% of which were given to families belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The number crossed 58 million by December 2018.

PMUY Logo is a Brandmark logo comprised of several graphics tied together tightly in order to form a cylindrical shape and the name of the scheme in the Devanagari script. Vivid colours are used in the Logo to express the identity of the scheme. The Logo also has a tagline “स्वच्छ ईंधन .. बेहतर जीवन”.
