A Statutory public body constituted on 12th October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance, formed on 28th September 1993, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights, as defined by the Act i.e., “Rights relating to life, liberty, equality and dignity of the individual guaranteed by the constitution or embodied in the international covenants”. NHRC’s composition enjoys a robust legal fortitude, with a panel that features former judges of the Supreme Court, High Court, and people experienced in human rights policy and execution. 

The Logo for NHRC is an Abstract Mark Logo comprising of a graphic and a Sanskrit proverb written in Devanagari script just beneath the graphic. The proverb is सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः, which means “May all live happily”.
