A non-profit company setup in Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) in 2002 with 51% equity contributed by the private sector and 49% by the public sector under the recommendations of The National Taskforce on Information Technology & Software Development. The National Institute for Smart Governent (NISG) was registered as a Section 25 company in May 2002 with its headquarters at Hyderabad.

The vision of NISG is to establish itself as a Centre of Excellence in e-Governance to facilitate application of public and private resources to e-Governance in the areas of: Strategic Planning, Project Consulting, Capacity Building, and Research & Innovation.

The NISG logo has a unique typeface wherein the letter “N” has been shown as a bridge which depicts the connection between public and private sector.
